Lot Essay

This type of cup stand first appeared in the Yongzheng reign and gained popularity in the Qianlong period. An almost identical Qianlong example is in the collection of Tibet Museum, illustrated by Xu Weichen, Ming and Qing Dynasties Ceramics Preserved in Tibet Museum, Beijing, 2004, pp. 124-125.

For similar Qianlong-marked cup stands of this design sold at auctions, see an example sold at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, Important Chinese Art from the Collection of Sir Quo-Wei Lee II, 8 October 2019, lot 140; and two further examples sold at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, 24 November 2014, lots 1209 and 1210.
