Lot Essay

Compare the large doucai bottle vase dated to the Qianlong period of similar proportions and size, but decorated with a design of butterflies amidst blossoming poppies, sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 11 May 1983, lot 214. See, also, the large doucai vase of similar proportions and dated to the 18th century, but decorated with a dragon and phoenix and inscribed with an apocryphal Jiajing mark below the mouth rim, sold in our New York rooms, 19 September 2007, lot 333.
