Lot Essay

The lobed body is raised on five ruyi-form feet, each jardinière is decorated to the exterior with auspicious motifs of bats, longevity and swastika symbol, all reserved on a yellow ground. The interior and the base are in turquoise glazed. The gilt shou characters, wan emblems and bats on a yellow ground suggest these begonia-form jardinières were made in celebration of an imperial birthday.
