the hood with stepped top with dentil cornice, brass capped pilasters and glazed panels to the sides, the panelled trunk with lenticular glass, on block plinth with bracket feet, the 11in. (28cm.) square brass dial with mask and foliate spandrels, matted centre with ringed winding holes, subsidiary seconds ring and date aperture within engraved surrround of flags inscribed GOD SAVE QUEEN ANN, signed on the chapter ring John Mills Ashford, the four pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement; dial 18th century, case later associated -- 92½in. (235cm.) high
