Lot Essay

This painting offers a tour-de-force of detail, from the opaque water droplets glistening on leaves to the active butterflies and inspects which lend a tromp-l’oeil essence to the magnificent floral arrangement. Painted in 1925, it was during these years, that Petter has managed to combine the lush abundance into a harmonious overall picture. Petter had great success with this, even reaching the Tsar.
We are grateful to Dr. Gerbert Frodl for his assitance with cataloguing this lot after examining photographs of this painting.
