Lot Essay

The present box was possibly made as a treasure box as part of the Emperor's play things.
Compare to a closely related imperial white jade 'ram' box and cover containing an imperial miniature handscroll, sold in Christie's Hong Kong, 19 January 1988, lot 533, then again on 29 November 2005, lot 1566.
