In 1892, on a sketching tour from Arizona to Colorado, Thomas Moran traveled through New Mexico for the first time. The artist returned to the region several times throughout his lifetime, studying the unique topography and rich indigenous culture of the nearby Pueblo people. Painted in his distinctive style, A Glowing Evening, New Mexico captures the drama and vibrancy of this unique setting, while also serving as an important document of the artist's vivid memories of his Southwestern travels.
