Baluster form on a circular foot, the pierced lift-off cover engraved with panels of stylized leaves spaced by panels of lattice and with baluster finial, engraved on the body with script monogram E.S.F., and with later engraving L*2 above, marked on underside SE in a shaped rectangle (Kane mark E or F)

Stephen Emery (1749-1801) was born in Exeter, New Hampshire, and received his training with Daniel Parker in Boston. Following the completion of his training in 1770, Emery remained working in Parker's shop before becoming a freeman in 1776.
