Lot Essay

We are grateful to Luuk Pijl who, on the basis of photographs, has suggested that this picture is by an artist in the circle of Franz de Paula Ferg (1689-1740), a Viennese painter who frequently worked on copper imitating Dutch, Flemish and Italian models (private communication, 25 November 2022).
