Lot Essay

Domenico Tiepolo was a prolific draftsman and among his most charming drawings are the many studies of angels and cherubs in flight. Many of these drawings are known and none of them appears to tell a specific story or to relate to a painted decoration. A large group of drawings of this subject was, together with the present one, in an album from Earl Beauchamp’s collection dispersed at auction in 1965 (Christie’s, London, 15 June 1965).
