Lot Essay

Jessie Wedgwood was the daughter of the horticulturist John Wedgwood (1766-1844), and granddaughter of Josiah Wedgwood (1730-1795), founder of the Wedgwood pottery. She married her double first cousin Henry Allen Wedgwood (1799-1885) at Abergavenny on 14 September 1830.

While staying in Illey, Gloucestershire, in April 1825, Linnell noted in a letter to his wife Mary that he was working on a portrait of Mr Sheppard, and a drawing of a neighbour, Miss Wedgwood (D. Linnell, op.cit.).
