BARTOLOMEO PASSAROTTI, BUST OF A YOUNG WOMAN WEARING A TURBAN, PEN AND BROWN INK
The Bolognese Mannerist Passarotti often sought exoticism in the faces he drew, even going as far as the grotesque by producing several versions of the same face, seen from a different angle, or, as here, producing a identical composition. The other version of this composition, also executed in pen and brown ink but in a somewhat drier, less detailed manner, is kept in the Uffizi, Florence (inv. 1469 F; see Ghirardi, op. cit, p. 74, n. 18, ill. p. 68).
