A project which did much to spread the fame of the Nazarene Brotherhood, Schnorr von Carolsfeld’s extensive series of wood engraving illustrations of the Bible, started in the 1820s and first published as a book in 1860, is only rivalled in popularity by Gustave Doré’s, which came out a few years later (S. Seeliger dans Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld. Zeichnungen, exhib. cat., Mainz, Landesmuseum Mainz, and Munich, Bayerisches Vereinsbank, 1994-1995, p. 133, nos. 52-67, ill.). In this scene, the prophet job is comforted by his friends, who have heard of his suffering.

La série d’illustrations bibliques de Schnorr von Carolsfeld, qu'il commence dans les années 1820 et qui est publiée pour la première fois sous forme de livre en 1860, a largement contribué à la renommée de la Fraternité nazaréenne (S. Seeliger dans Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld. Zeichnungen, cat. exp., Mayence, Landesmuseum Mainz, et Munich, Bayerisches Vereinsbank, 1994-1995, p. 133, n^os 52-67, ill.). Sa popularité n’a d’égale que celle des illustrations de Gustave Doré, parues quelques années plus tard. Dans cette scène, le prophète Job est réconforté par ses amis, qui ont appris sa souffrance.
