Lot Essay

Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo was a prolific draftsman, working on numerous series of drawings unconnected to specific commissions. The drawings were created as finished works and were almost invariably signed by the artist, as is the case here. We know that these series of drawings were kept together in the workshop, suggesting that Giovanni Domenico made them for his own pleasure.
