IN THE MANNER OF BERNARD VAN RISENBURGH, LATE 19TH/20TH CENTURY
The serpentine cornice edged with ormolu banding above a pair of cupboard doors with cartouche-shaped gilt grille above cartouches inlaid in bois-de-bout marquetry, the base edged in foliate-cast chutes on bracket feet, the reverse bearing the spurious stamp 'J.M. CRESSENT' and spurious brands of two interlaced L's with a crown and fleur-de-lys

Lot Essay

This piece relates to a group of armoires and bibliotheques by Bernard Van Risenburgh of an "Arc En Arbalete" outline with similar ormolu mounts. See a more elaborate one, stamped "B.V.R.B." formerly in the Patino Collection, and now in the Louvre. Another in the manner of B.V.R.B. in black lacquer in the Collection of Forsyth Wickes (See: C. Packer "Paris Furniture" 1956, fig. 85)
