Lot Essay

Erich Mallina was born in Prerau, Czechoslovakia and worked as a commericial artist, painter, and school teacher in Vienna. In his early work, the artist was strongly committed to the decorative style of the Vienna Secession and this influence can be seen in the shapes and gold details in the present watercolor. Mallina also drew from the Symbolist imagery of ethereal women and allegory during this period.
