Lot Essay

Sculpted in the Pharaonic style, Isis is depicting striding with her left leg advanced, on an integral plinth. She wears an ankle-length tightly-fitting sheath dress with a decorative collar, and an echeloned tripartite wig overlaid with vulture wings. Her left arm is bent at the elbow and drawn across her body, with her fisted hand holding an attribute between her breasts, perhaps a lily scepter. Her right arm is at her side, holding an ankh. This style was frequently employed for depictions of Ptolemaic queens (see for example no. 162 in S. Walker and P. Higgs, Cleopatra of Egypt, from History to Myth).
