Engraved on this gem is a peacock walking to the left on a short groundline. The peacock was sacred to Juno, and a popular motif on gems, either on its own or combined with other birds sacred to the goddess, the eagle and the owl. J.D. Beazley, in the Story-Maskelyne catalogue, considered it to be a pea-hen, but it may be that a peacock was intended. The gem is mounted as a ring in a 19th century gold setting.
