A wingless Cupid steps forward, on a groundline, supporting a large bearded mask over his shoulder and holding a staff tied with streamers. The gem is mounted as a ring in an early 19th century gold setting.

Cupid is often associated with a theater mask in Greek and Roman art, either holding it out before him, shouldering it, as here, or wearing it. For a related example, see the impression by Tassie, Beazley Archive Gem Database no. 2163
