At first glance it would appear that this portrait and the following lot were created together as a pair. The two figures mirror one another in pose and each wear matching trousers and diaphanous jama. However, the slightly different treatment of the ground beneath them and slight stylistic changes, for example the portrait of the lady has detailing around her hands and face in red ink, suggests that they are not exactly contemporary. Most likely is that the portrait of the lady was painted afterwards to face the other when the album was assembled in the mid-18th century.
