A LATE LOUIS XV ORMOLU-MOUNTED BRASS AND BLUE STAINED HORN-INLAID 'BOULLE' MARQUETRY AND EBONY CARTONNIER BY ETIENNE LEVASSEUR, CIRCA 1775, RE-USING SOME MOUNTS BY ANDRE-CHARLES BOULLE The façade with six open compartments, the sides inlaid with scrolling foliage with rosettes to corners and centred by a mask of Democritus on a gadrooned plinth 'with' further squared rosettes, stamped 'E LEVASSEUR' twice and once 'JME', with label to the rear inscribed L'E GARDE MEUBLE PUBLIC / 18 Rue St Augustin / 25269 / BEDEL & Cie', re-using some earlier carcase timbers 21 ¼ in. (54 cm.) high; 32 in. (81.2 cm.) wide; 12 ¼ in. (31.2 cm.) deep

Acquired by the father of the present owner from Syd Block, a dealer in London, after the war in the 1950s.
