Lot Essay

In the collection of the musée Nissim de Camondo is a Chinese turquoise vase with closely related mounts to the neck and base (inv. no. 225-2). The masks, scrolled handles and trailing bells are identical to those on this pair of vases while the foliate paw feet to the base are also closely related. The Chinese Imari-style porcelain with flowers and scale decoration was clearly a favoured model of the export market and a closely related vase mounted as a table fountain is currently in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (inv. 166&A-1879).
