Blue Sky‘A few months after this collection was presented in Paris, Vivienne Westwood mused, ‘My clothes get more “free”, the more and more I continue. The technique becomes so automatic.’ Freedom was evoked not only by this collection’s elegiac title – ‘Blue Sky’ – but also by the clothes themselves, continuing from ‘Le Flou Taillé’ in expressing an inherent lightness and softness.London’s Daily Telegraph dubbed this Westwood show ‘one of her strongest collections in many seasons, with fleur-de-lys-embroidered military jackets, bondage trousers in rose chintz and drawstring dresses that were looped and draped with all the ingenuity of an Austrian blind manufacturer’. Once again, the focus was on liberated fabric against the body, unique to each wearer. What was new, perhaps, to this collection was a sensuality to the clothes: cloth easily draped, pulled close to the form, often showing skin.’Alexander Fury, Vivienne Westwood Catwalk
