Lot Essay

A preliminary drawing for this watercolour, dated 1820 and inscribed 'Near St. John's College', was included in Turner of Oxford, Oxfordshire County Museum, Woodstock, 1984, no. 38. The view was also etched, (no. 27). A finished watercolour was used for the Oxford Almanack in 1896, reproduced in Helen Mary Petter, The Oxford Almanacks, 1974.
