Carl Jung (1875-1961)
Autograph letter signed (‘C.G. Jung’) to Rivkah Shärf, Küsnacht-Zürich, 14 September 1947
In German. One page, 298 x 208mm. Headed paper. Envelope.
‘The mice know what they want’. Jung advises Shärf on on a dream: ‘You think too much about the picture of the mice. The mice know what you are supposed to do with it, not you! Observe what the mice are doing. … The mice know what they want. … Give the unconscious some credit, and it will show you the way’.
Jung’s approach to dream interpretation diverged from Freud’s, as he saw dreams not as mere wish fulfilments but as meaningful, symbolic communications from the unconscious.
