While aubergine-glazed green-ground ‘dragon’ bowls were created throughout the Qing dynasty, fully aubergine-glazed ‘dragon’ bowls are quite rare. Such bowls were likely emulating earlier Ming-dynasty examples, such as a carved aubergine-glazed ‘dragon’ bowl, Wanli mark and period (1573-1619), in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - 37 - Monochrome Porcelain, Hong Kong, 1999, p. 180, no. 163.

A related green-glazed ‘dragon’ bowl, Guangxu mark and period, was sold at Sotheby's London, 7 November 2012, lot 259.
