A PAIR OF SOFT-METAL-INLAID IRON TSUBA
EDO PERIOD (19TH CENTURY), EACH SIGNED 'HOSHINSAI TOSHIKAGE' WITH A CURSIVE MONOGRAM (KAO) (MORIKAWA TOSHIKAGE; B. 1839)
A pair of a small mokko-shape and big naga-maru-shape iron tsuba, each inlaid in gold, silver and shibuichi, the small designed with minogame and Ryugu-jo (Dragon Palace Castle) and the big tsuba with dragon and tiger; the small tsuba dated Genji kinotoshi shoka (1865 early summer)
2 ½ in. (6.4 cm.) and 3 1⁄8 in. (7.9 cm.) diam.
Each had a Tokubetsu kicho shodogu certificate, issued by Nihon bijutsu token hozon kyokai, 3 June 1974, no 205 and 206, now missing
