This helmet is an elegant example of the Pilos type. The conical dome is offset from the broad lower band, which is decorated with repoussé ornamentation featuring a berried olive wreath, tied at the back, and centered by a rosette. For a similar example, see the helmet also formerly in the Axel Guttmann Collection and now in Munich, Staatliche Antikensammlungen, no. H249 in Hixenbaugh, op. cit.
