Lot Essay

Omega created this watch to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the successful return of the Apollo 13 Command Module. The astronauts aboard the module were wearing their Speedmaster Professional watches. These proved to be life and mission-saving as the astronauts had to deal with an unexpected crisis. One of the oxygen tanks exploded and in order to calculate the correct trajectory to safely return to earth, the astronauts had to use their Speedmasters to time the engine burns.

NASA awarded Omega with the Silver Snoopy Award in recognition of their contributions to the Apollo program. This watch features a white dial that has a super-luminova Snoopy in the 9 o'clock sub-register. Also on the dial are the quotes, "Failure is not an option," and "What could you do in 14 seconds?" The 14 squares on the outer part of the dial from 12 to 3 represent the 14 squares of the Snoopy comics. On the back, the case back has a 925 silver Snoopy medallion. This watch represents a great achievement in the history of NASA and Omega.
