Lot Essay

This highly appealing special limited edition Travel Time reference 5134J-010 is one of only 50 double-signed pieces made in yellow gold to celebrate the 150th anniversary of foremost Swiss retailer Gübelin in 2004. So appreciated is the reference 5134J-010 by its fortunate owners, that in the 20 years since production, only 8 examples have returned to the market. Displaying both the Gübelin and Patek Philippe signatures on the rich brown dial, it also features a special sapphire crystal back which is engraved with the Gübelin logo and the inscription “Gübelin 1854 – 2004”.

With the introduction of reference 5134, Patek Philippe revived the ingenious dual-time system first devised by Louis Cottier and patented by Patek Philippe in 1959, whereby a differently coloured additional independently adjustable hour hand can be advanced to show local time. In this sense, reference 5134 is a direct descendent of the legendary ‘golden age’ second-generation reference 2597 introduced in 1962.

This very exclusive Gübelin double-signed Travel Time celebrating Patek Philippe’s long relationship with one of their most respected retailers is the perfect contemporary timepiece for collectors with a desire to obtain the very best and most desirable specimens of great classic Patek Philippe references.

E. Gübelin
