EAST CAUCASUS, CIRCA 1870

The striking repeat design on the present runner is one frequently found on long format carpets within the Kuba and Shirvan region. The star-shaped blossoms with sharply serrated outlines arranged in offset rows, with occasional minor decorative motifs placed between them, requires expert precision in their execution in order to create such a visually compelling geometric arrangement.
