Lot Essay

Throughout his life, Irvin only ever accepted four commissions, including one for the maternity wing at Homerton Hospital in Hackney, a commission he accepted because the liked the idea of newborn babies being confronted with his eye-popping colour palette. The present work is a study for the Homerton commission.
