This beautiful pair of mirrors was formerly in the collection of the prolific British romance novelist Dame Barbara Cartland. They descended to her only daughter, Raine McCorquodale. In 1948, Raine married the Hon. Gerald Humphry Legge. He succeeded to the courtesy title Viscount Lewisham in 1958 and became the 9th Earl of Dartmouth in 1962. The mirrors were photographed in the couple's Mayfair townhouse in November 1962 (see: A. Coleridge, Connoisseur, 1962, p. 147., fig. 12).
