After Guido Reni's Abduction of Deianira of 1617-21 (Musée du Louvre, inv. no. 537), commissioned by Ferdinando Gonzaga, Duke of Mantua (1587-1626), one of four monumental canvases depicting the Labours of Hercules, painted for the Villa La Favorita. The centaur Nessus escapes through the Euenos River with the abducted Deianira, before Heracles, her husband, shoots Nessus with a poisoned arrow.
