Lot Essay

Historically attributed to British painter William Marlow (1740-1813), this atmospheric landscape has more in common with the French artists who toured Italy in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, like Alexandre-Hyacinthe Dunouy (1757-1841) and his contemporaries, many of whom frequently exhibited their Italian views at the Paris Salon.
