Each rectangular back with floral cresting and a tapering splat carved with a variant musical trophy, the rectangular seats covered in two patterns of floral silk, on fluted tapering legs headed with foliage, all with oval fleur-de-lys brand and FON for the château de Fontainebleau, two chairs stamped JACOB D RUE MESLEE, three branded F Repuier, the chair with a horn stenciled in black 13378, F1877 and ...18, red painted 267F and 9106; the lute black stenciled F16189, F662, F416618, and red painted 275 F and 9395; the chair with bagpipes black stenciled ...399 and F756, and printed label inscribed 306; the chair with a tambourine black stenciled F669 and F...89, and red painted ...6 and F946...

This stamp was used by Francois-Honoré-Georges Jacob, known as Jacob-Desmalter, between 1803 and 1813.

A pair of very similar chairs signed by Jacob Frères and bearing TH marks for the palais des Tuileries, their splats carved as lyres, was sold Sotheby's, New York, 11 October 1980, lot 155.
