with label on frame This portrait is of my father Cordeanio(Deane) Harley Merrill, born 1840-died 1908 and was probably painted about 1850. The background is a good representation of the Deerfield River and "The Ravine" at Shelburne Falls Mass; to wihch Father drove the cows each day. His father was Moses Whitney Merrill (1817-1859) and his mother Abigail E. Coleman Merill (1818-1892). Charles A. Merill.
