Lot Essay

Jerusha Lyman was born in 1783 in Northampton, Massachusetts and was daughter to William Lyman (1855-1811) and Jerusha (Welles) Lyman (1760-1803). William graduated from Yale College in 1776 and served in the Revolutionary War. After the war, he entered politics, eventually becoming a congressman. In 1816, Jerusha married Bishop Jackson Kemper (1789-1870) of Wisconsin.
