Lot Essay

With its original hardware and exceptionally tall bracket feet, this block-front bureau table is an outstanding surviving of the form. Here, the rounded blocking with minimal carved embellishments exemplifies the restrained designs favored by Boston's mid-eighteenth century cabinetmakers.
