Lot Essay

Thomas Emmons and George Archibald were distinguished cabinetmakers in Boston in the early nineteenth century. With refined carving and hardware, the firm’s elegant furniture appealed to fashionable patrons of the period. A nearly identical example by Emmons & Archbald is in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston (accession no. 1985.335).
