On a hexafoil foot flat chased with stylized leaves, the knopped stem applied with silver bosses chased with crosses and religious figures, the circular bowl with a lower collar engraved with flowerheads, apparently unmarked

The form of the present chalice originated in Tuscany, with the large knopped stem, engraved calyx, and molded base first appearing on chalices in Sienna dated to the end of the thirteenth century. The medallions mounted to the knop are die-struck with scenes of the crucifixion, saints, and a cross. The sixth medallion, depicting two saints, is possibly a coin.
