Elias Adam (1669-1745), whose mark is reproduced in H. Seling, Die Augsburger Gold- und Silverschmiede 1529-1868, Munich, 2007, no. 1964, pp. 459-462, became a master in 1703. He was a prolific goldsmith, known for works with silver-gilt mounted enamel, such as seen in the present lot, in addition to more traditional works in silver.
