Lot Essay

The shape of the present lot is derived from late 16th century Italian ceramic double bottles, making this a rare example of Chinese porcelain based on a European form. A very similar double bottle with slightly more elaborate mounts including collars to the mouths is in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (acc. no. C.91-1956).
