Cambiaso and the artists active in his workshop often drew goddesses and sea-nymphs emerging from the sea surrounded by putti, dolphins and tritons. Galatea and Amphitrite were particularly frequent subjects. A fundamental source for the iconography was Raphael’s fresco of Galatea in the Villa Farnesina in Rome.
