Lot Essay

The current pillow is incised with a poem by the Tang-dynasty poet Luo Binwang entitled Chu Yue (Early Moon), which expresses the beauty and melancholy of the early moon, symbolizing the passage of time and the feelings of nostalgia. A similar Cizhou green-glazed pillow incised with a poem is illustrated in Zhongguo qutu ciqi quanji, vol.3, Hebei, Beijing, 2008, pl.148, p.148. Another similar example decorated with a poem and leaf design is illustrated in Zhongguo qutu ciqi quanji, vol.2, Hebei, Beijing, 2006, p. 121.
