Lot Essay

A slightly smaller (13.4 cm.) Jiajing mark-and-period square bowl from the Meiyintang Collection, with a related design, but executed in aubergine, green and yellow enamels on a white ground, is illustrated by R. Krahl in Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, Vol. 4 (I), London, pp. 166-7, no. 1688 and sold at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, 7 April 2011, lot 65. Another square bowl similar to the Meiyintang example formerly in the Eumorfopoulos Collection and now in the British Museum, London, is illustrated by J. Harrison-Hall in Catalogue of Late Yuan and Ming Ceramics in the British Museum, London, 2001, p. 265, no. 9:114.
