PIERRE CAQUÉ, BALDAQUIN OF THE ORATORY, PEN AND BLACK INK, GREY WASH, INCISED OUTLINES

Pierre Caqué was a Parisian architect, best known for the completion of the Oratoire church on rue Saint Honoré (today the Protestant Temple of the Oratoire du Louvre), and in particular its façade, which he took on in 1745. Close to the congregation of the Oratoire, which was in charge of the building, he also designed and built the baldachin for the altar in 1749, the elevation of which is shown in this drawing. A period engraving by A. Le Canu of this drawing is also known; two specimens of this engraving will be given to the purchaser of this lot.

Architecte parisien, Pierre Caqué est principalement connu pour l’achèvement à partir de 1745 de l’église de l’Oratoire, rue Saint Honoré (aujourd’hui Temple protestant de l’Oratoire du Louvre), et notamment sa façade. Proche de la congrégation de l’oratoire qui était maître de l’édifice, il conçoit et réalise également en 1749, le baldaquin de l’autel dont ce dessin figure l’élévation. Une gravure d’époque par A. Le Canu reproduisant le présent dessin est également connue; deux exemplaires de cette gravure seront remis à l'acquérueur de ce lot.
