FRIEDRICH WILHELM MORITZ, VIEW OF FIRENZE FROM THE BANKS OF THE ARNO RIVER, TRACES OF GRAPHITE, WATERCOLOUR, HEIGHTENED WITH ARABIC GUM AND WHITE, SIGNED
This drawing is part of a series on the theme of Italy produced by the Swiss painter and draughtsman Friedrich Wilhelm Moritz, possibly during a stay in the peninsula. Other Italian drawings by the same artist are also referenced, including a View of the Loggia dei Lanzi with Michelangelo's David and the Palazzo della Signoria in Firenze, 1834 (Christie's, New York, 30 October 2018, lot 267), and the Piazza del popolo in Rome, 1827 (sale Koller Auktion, Zürich, vente 208, Friday 24 March 2006, lot 6560), both in private hands.
