An early 19th-century brass universal equinoctial compass dial,
signed on the hour ring Troughton & Simms, LONDON, engraved IIII-IIX-VIII on the upper surface, the inner edge similarly engraved, with spring-loaded bar-gnomon, the folding latitude arc engraved 0°-80°, the compass dial with edge-bar needle on jewelled pivot with clamp and two levels, horizontal calendar dial, in the original plush-lined fishskin-covered case with three hooks and eyes -- 6in. (15.3cm.) wide
