Face A: without decoration

Face B: an inner lid with inset 2¼-inch dia. circular engraved paper map of England and Wales, with counties drawn and named, hand-coloured outline, stippled sea areas, compass point and scale bar, heightened in gold, with arms of England, Ireland and Scotland, the outer perimeter with the following quotation All these thinges follinge this famouse ile is fuel mountaynes fountaynes bridges churches woman woll

Stamped with geometric decoration and marked in red for 52°

Face C: laid out for a string gnomon dial for 52°, inset with a compass box, with paper card, iron needle, blued with north and south points, in gilt and brass cap (replacement)

Face D: without decoration

with two silver catches and suspension ring -- 3 3/8in. (8.5cm.) long
